Virginia apologizes for slavery, 2007-03-02

I’m not sure how I feel about this, seems like a nice gesture. However, I think Fark would put this in the [Obvious] category. This is particularly symbolic coming from Richmond near the 400th anniversary of the establishment of Jamestown.

12 years later the first Dutch ship with 20 Africans in chains shows up. Well that didn’t take very long.

The Guardian does site the following story so we’ll always have that.

However, the apology was not without controversy. Earlier this year, another member of the house, Frank Hargrove, said African-Americans should “get over” slavery, claiming he should not have to apologise for something that happened before he was born
